The School District of Westfield is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our middle/high school team. This candidate will be working with students in grades 7-9. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of child development and learning disabilities, along with a passion for helping students with diverse needs succeed academically and socially. As a Special Education Teacher, you will collaborate with other educators, parents, and support staff to create individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique learning requirements.
Candidate Requirements:
The candidate should have:
-Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies, assessment techniques, and behavior management strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
-Experience working with children with disabilities, preferably in an adolescent-level setting.
-The ability to establish effective working relationships with paraprofessionals, related service staff, other agencies, and families.
-The ability to develop positive relationships and engage in open, reciprocal communication with students and families.
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
-Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with disabilities.
-Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the individual needs of students with diverse learning profiles.
-Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development in the field of special education.
-Candidates must be able to maintain a safe, respectful classroom environment; make a positive and substantial contribution to the school and district; and assume a leadership role with colleagues
Other expectations:
-Participation in screenings, evaluations, meetings, and IEP development for in-district and out-of-district placements.
-Participation in professional development activities.
-Attend staff meetings
