Position Purpose:
Early childhood youth apprentices assist teachers in a variety of settings. Focus is placed on maintaining a safe and healthy environment, building relationships with parents and staff, and implementing learning activities.
Terms of Employment:
Early Childhood Youth Apprenticeship Year 1 Program Aides are high school juniors or seniors who are hired by an employer to work at least 450 hours in a year. They follow the Green Bay Public School District Employee Handbook.

- Successfully completes required pre-employment and onboarding trainings including: Universal Precautions/Bloodborne Pathogens, Suicide Prevention, Prevention of School Violence, Background Check, Child Abuse and Neglect Training within one week after beginning work, Abusive Head Trauma Prevention Training, including SIDS
- Assesses environment for safety hazards, removes hazards, notifies staff of non-mobil hazards and ensures hazardous materials are inaccessible to children.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary environment by implementing a cleaning schedule, using cleaning solution safety guidelines and three-step sanitation process to keep the environment clean.
- Adheres to emergency procedures by following security, evacuation, and emergency medical procedures.
- Follows employer’s child tracking procedures by identifying child-safe ratio, conducting name-to-face check, tracking children in and out of classroom and staying in sight of children.
- Serves age appropriate meals and/or snacks, if applicable, while following safe food handling practices. Sits with children during meals to encourage discussion and model good table manners.
- Fosters social interaction during meals, if applicable.
- Instructs children on and models personal hygiene using a variety of strategies, e g discussions, positive guidance, visual displays, reading materials, songs, rhymes, and games to teach proper hand washing, nose blowing, coughing and sneezing practices, and dental hygiene, all while modeling best practices.
- Follow toileting and diapering procedures - identify each children’s needs, demonstrate proper toilet and diapering procedures, follow sanitizing guidelines.
- Incorporate teacher-directed activities for small and large groups, both for indoor and outdoor activities - prepare activities in accordance with teacher’s plans, lead activities per teacher direction, engage with children during activities.
- Establishes positive relationships with children and families.
- Develops opportunities to interact with other families and to volunteer in the classroom.
- Complies with licensing regulations.
- Models professionalism as an Early Childhood Educator by demonstrating professional appearance and demeanor, and using professional verbal and nonverbal communication to children and families.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Working Conditions:
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Uses time management skills to meet timelines.
- Able to interact with staff, vendors, etc. effectively.

Qualifications Required:
Must be at least 16 years-old.
Must be a junior in high school.
Certifications required
First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificed within first three months of employment.
