Licensure: Candidate must be eligible for a special education program aide license from the Wisconsin Department of Instruction (DPI). Upon hire, the school district will assist you in the process of gaining this licensure.

Openings:  Middle School: 2 openings
                 High School: 5 openings
Hours: Maximum of 29 hours weekly (4 or 5 day schedule)

Work Year: 9 month position (student contact days only)
 

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides instructional, behavioral and personal support to  students under the direct supervision of the Building Administration, Director of Student Services and licensed staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Develops and maintains sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, abilities and disabilities.  

  • Assists the teacher in working with students individually or in small groups to reinforce material and skills as directed by the teacher and related staff members 

  • Assists in implementing students’ individual education programs(IEP).

  • Assists the teacher in implementing and maintaining classroom discipline as directed.  

  • Uses effective basic strategies for management of behavior as well as crisis intervention strategies for prevention and intervention  

  • Communicates well with others in expressing concerns/compliments.   

  • Assists with program needs as requested.   

  • Assists in organizing and preparation of classroom materials as directed.  

  • Assists with individual student needs as requested.  

  • Uses conflict resolution skills to solve problems.  

  • Exhibits collaboration skills and teamwork.   

  • Monitors students’ use of computers and software as directed.  

  • Participates in appropriate in-service, workshops and conferences as directed.  Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality. 


MARGINAL DUTIES:  

  • Other job related duties as assigned by the supervisor.  

  • Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. 


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  One to three months of related experience and/or training preferred.  


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:  

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be required to go outside in all seasons.
