Job Summary: 
The Elementary Special Education Coordinator serves as a leader and instructional coach specializing in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of special education programming for students with autism and students with significant disabilities (e.g., intellectual disabilities, global developmental delays). This role focuses on building teacher capacity through coaching, modeling, and professional development to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based practices aligned with state and federal standards. The Coordinator also provides oversight and guidance to ensure program compliance and fosters collaboration among school teams, administrators, and families. 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
1. Instructional Coaching & Teacher Development: 
○ Provide job-embedded coaching, modeling, and feedback to teachers in autism and significant disabilities programs to enhance instructional practices and student outcomes. 
○ Develop and facilitate targeted professional learning opportunities in evidence-based practices (e.g., ABA strategies, communication supports, sensory integration, specially designed instruction). 
○ Collaborate with instructional staff to plan and implement individualized, rigorous, and inclusive educational experiences. 
○ Guide teachers in developing high-quality IEPs with a focus on measurable goals, specially designed instruction, and progress monitoring. 
 
2. Program Implementation & Support: 
○ Collaborate with school administrators to design, implement, and monitor program models that meet the needs of students with significant disabilities in the
least restrictive environment (LRE). 
○ Lead the development of tools, resources, and frameworks to support program fidelity and effectiveness. 
○ Support smooth transitions for students across grade levels and between programs. 
 
3. Compliance & Legal Guidance: 
○ Interpret and ensure adherence to IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and state-specific regulations related to special education programming. 
○ Oversee compliance documentation and assist in preparing for audits and reviews. 
○ Provide training and technical assistance to IEP teams to maintain compliance with all evaluation and programming requirements. 
 
4. Collaboration & Family Engagement: 
○ Work closely with school staff, district leadership, and related service providers to promote inclusive practices. 
○ Support family engagement by offering information, resources, and assistance regarding student programming, rights, and services. 
○ Act as a liaison between families and schools to address concerns and facilitate collaborative problem-solving. 
 
5. Leadership & District Initiatives: 
○ Participate in leadership meetings, district strategic initiatives, and special projects related to special education programming. 
○ Support district-wide professional development efforts, including new teacher induction and continuous learning opportunities. 
○ Contribute to continuous improvement processes through data collection, analysis, and reporting. 
 
6. Additional Duties:
○ Maintain active participation in state and national networks to stay current on best practices and policy changes. 
○ Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Inclusionary Practices. 
 
Required Skills & Competencies: 
● Deep understanding of evidence-based instructional practices for students with autism and significant disabilities. 
● Extensive knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and state special education regulations. 
● Proven ability to coach and develop teachers to improve instructional effectiveness.
● Strong collaboration, interpersonal, and communication skills. 
● Ability to analyze data to inform instructional decisions and program improvements.
● Organizational skills with attention to detail and deadlines. 
● Proficient in relevant technology and software (e.g., Microsoft Office, IEP management systems). 
 
Education & Experience: 
● Bachelor’s degree in Special Education (Master’s degree preferred in [Special Education, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Educational Leadership, or related field]). 
● Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience in special education, with a strong preference for experience working with students with autism and/or significant disabilities. 
● Prior coaching, mentoring, or instructional leadership experience preferred. 
● Must be Pro-ACT certified or able to complete certification within [6] months of employment.
