JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Project SEARCH is an innovative, business-driven transition program for young adults with disabilities. The goal is for the students to develop job and social skills through on-site educational and internship experiences at the Milwaukee County Zoo that lead to competitive employment in the community.
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing transitional and educational programming that will enable each young adult to develop academically, mentally, and emotionally. He or she will also facilitate work-based learning that promotes problem solving, teamwork, and social relationships by identifying each student’s strengths, interests, and abilities related to skill acquisition, job development, and job placement.
Classroom activities are based on the Project SEARCH Model, and the Teacher will collaborate with others to provide job coaching for the interns in a variety of job rotations throughout the work setting. The Teacher is also responsible for coordinating all services with managed care organizations, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, participating school districts, the Milwaukee County Zoo, and other interested partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- DPI License in Special Education.
- Three years of experience working with adolescents who have disabilities.
- Experience working in a transition to work program preferred.
- Valid Driver License.
- Agile, demonstrating a growth mindset by leveraging flexibility, resilience, and change.
- Highly collaborative, working with others to achieve a common goal in a way that promotes representation and participation by all.
- Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communicator who expresses ideas and information with clarity and respect aligned to an intended audience and purpose.
- Thinks critically to analyze multiple perspectives, contexts, and data to creatively question, make connections, and evaluate options leading to reasonable conclusions with on-going reflection for future improvements.
- Empathetically engages with others to understand and recognize their perspectives, experiences, and emotions.
- Practices self management to leverage one’s abilities and emotions to direct one’s path as a resilient lifelong learner.
