Math Interventionist Starting 2025-2026 School Year - Vacancy ID: 233330

The School District of Whitefish Bay is looking for two exceptional candidates to serve as full-time math interventionists for the 2025-2026 school year, one at Cumberland Elementary School and one at Richards Elementary Schools. 

Our mathematics intervention program is designed to accelerate the progress of students who have demonstrated a need for additional support through their classroom performance and/or as indicated through universal screening data (i.e., STAR). Through small-group instruction, our interventionist builds independence in the mathematical skills necessary to succeed in the core curriculum, which is Illustrative Mathematics. Prior experience with Add+Vantage Math Recovery (AVMR), Do the Math, or other math intervention programs is preferred, but not required. Potential candidates should be well-versed in diagnostic tools used to determine a student's strengths and areas of need. Communication with classroom teachers is essential, so strong oral and written skills are also important.

Our math interventionist is also responsible for supporting students who are at the top tier of math performance.  This will be accomplished through daily math instruction of sixth-grade math for qualified fifth-grade students.  Periodic collaboration with the sixth-grade math teaching team will be expected. 

Applicants must believe that success is possible for students, regardless of their history with the subject. We also believe that conceptual understanding proceeds procedural fluency, therefore we seek an interventionist who is committed to developing both in their students.

This interventionist position will include daily small group instruction in both the general education classroom and in the resource room setting. Close collaboration with the Math coach and periodic data review meetings with members of the MTSS Team are expected. If the top applicant does not have training in AVMR, he or she must be willing to engage with the training in the first year of employment. Frequent communication about progress with parents is also a responsibility of this position.
