Burlington Area School District is seeking an enthusiastic teacher to join the team at Karcher Middle School! KMS follows a professional learning communities model and is a cohesive, tight group that works collaboratively to support their students, families, and each other. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with middle school students (grades 5 - 8), and experience teaching an ELA curriculum.

Job Summary:
Burlington Area School District is seeking an enthusiastic quality professional to join our team. BASD is looking for an individual motivated to improve our students’ reading and writing abilities as they move through our curriculum. Staff members take pride in the commitment to student learning. Essential Functions:
• Plan a program of study that reflects a logical sequence of learning objectives and activities and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
• Create a positive, stimulating environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
• Employ research-based instruction techniques, methods, materials and principles of learning to guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Strives to implement by instruction and action the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records as prescribed by law, District policy and administrative rules
• Assess the accomplishments of students and provide progress reports as required.
• Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
• Maintain a professional relationship with staff to assist in the planning of programs, setting of school goals and objectives, identifying instructional goals and objectives, selection of resources, and participate in activities leading to the improvement of school programs.
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct. Develops rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence and growth through an ongoing program of reading, coursework and seminars, conference, workshops, and other staff development activities.
• Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees, as required
• Perform other related duties as delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
• Valid teacher license for position as established by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
• Knowledge of student-centered teaching philosophy
• Experience using the workshop model
• Experience working with youth in an educational setting
• Knowledge of relevant technology to assist in instruction
• Ability to work productively in a team and as a self-starting individual
• Ability to make reasonable independent judgment and decisions
• Ability to handle confidential matters properly
• Ability to effectively analyze needs and problems objectively
• Ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, administration and the general public
• Ability to work on a regular and punctual basis
Essential Physical / Mental Requirements:
Must be able to...
• regularly stand, sit, walk
• exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
• communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide accurate information and assistance
• complete job duties in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm
