Position Details
The Berlin Area School District is searching for a passionate and talented full-time social studies teacher for grades 9-12. Under the direction of the building administration, the social studies teacher will relate to high school students, build quality relationships with students, staff, and community, and welcome the opportunity to be part of a professional learning community.
Berlin High School has a long history rich in tradition and pride. Our student body of approximately 430 students has a breadth of opportunity with over 130 different course offerings to choose from in multiple disciplines, including career and technical education, fine arts, sciences, mathematics, languages, and college preparatory courses. Berlin High School offers the opportunity for students to earn over 70 university and technical school credits while in high school, in addition to Advanced Placement (AP) offerings. We believe that the high school experience extends outside the classroom, and with over 40 extracurricular clubs, groups and teams, our students have ample opportunity to be involved.
Berlin High School is one of three schools that make up the Berlin Area School District. Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5), Berlin Middle School (6-8), and Berlin High School sit on the same campus and serve as a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District comprises 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center. Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 20 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, light industry, and retail shops comprise Berlin’s economy.
Preference will be given to candidates who offer versatility within their current licensing or to those candidates who are willing to add additional licenses to meet the needs of our students. Additionally, there are coaching and advising positions that are open and candidates who show potential in those areas are preferred.
The ideal candidate for this position must be able to demonstrate knowledge and effectiveness in the following areas:

Utilize creative, innovative, and varied classroom instructional practices to engage students in their learning.

Assess students formatively and summatively on their mastery of standards with a focus on student learning and growth. Utilize these assessments to plan instruction and monitor student progress.

Incorporate differentiated instructional strategies into lesson planning and delivery to meet all student needs.

Create a positive learning environment.

Develop and build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and administrators with a consistent focus on meeting student needs.

Utilize technology effectively to enhance student learning and engagement.

Actively collaborate with teaching colleagues within our PLC framework to develop a plan for instructing common curriculum, developing common assessments, and providing peer feedback on instructional practices and student support based on observation and assessment data.
Salary, benefits, and length of contract: This position works a 190-day contract with a salary not less than $46,893 and an excellent benefits package.
