Full Time

The School District of Amery is now hiring a Director of Communications & Community Engagement. The person in this critical role is responsible for the management of district communications to all audiences. This includes positively “telling the district’s story” by professionally communicating and promoting opportunities and information about the district and events to community members, families, local media, and others to increase community engagement within our schools. This person is also responsible for engaging the community through the creation, implementation, and management of district-wide community education programming.

Communications

  • Create, develop, and implement communication tools for the schools, community, and the district, including the website, online and printed calendar, app, district newsletters, flyers, social media platforms, crisis and notification communications, press releases, outdoor marquees, and other tools to maximize community, staff, and family engagement.
  • Act as a liaison between the school and families, the community, and outside community organizations and businesses.
  • Attend a variety of district and community events to promote community awareness of district activities and promote family and community engagement.
  • Plan, develop, and implement a variety of public relations strategies and tools, working with various teams to develop and coordinate the district’s communication’s plan.
  • Maintain and monitor the district’s social media sites and update regularly with timely and appropriate content.
  • Coordinate communication tools for all staff to ensure consistent message and branding of staff communications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local media and coordinate regular communication to media.
  • Capture visual content, such as photographs and videos, for use by the district.
  • Provide leadership in communication strategies, both internally and externally, including during crises, referendum campaigns, and other district-wide projects.
  • Evaluate communication activities for the purpose of improving community engagement.
  • Serve on the district Crisis/Emergency team.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested.

Community Education

  • Develop and coordinate the district community education program including the creation and promotion of courses/events/trips/workshops, monitoring class registration, hiring and working with instructors, coordinating with school staff, scheduling facilities, and executing classes/events/trips.
  • Develop a community education program that meets the goal of extending the use of school facilities for all citizens.
  • Maintain appropriate financial records for all programs and activities.
  • Monitor quality of programming through participant evaluations, instructor evaluations, observations, and registration data collection.
  • Oversee the district facility scheduling process in partnership with secretarial staff, and coordinate and schedule facilities needed for community education programs and community partners.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with local businesses and professional service providers to create opportunities for joint programming.
  • Ensure community education programs are meeting the educational needs of the community.
  • Assist in the preparation and oversight of the community education program budget.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, English, education, business or related field (experience in schools and/or the public sector is preferred)
  • Experience with print and electronic media, including photography, writing, editing, layout, and design of publications and social media graphics
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience writing press releases and other communication and promotional materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • High degree of creativity
  • Proficient with the internet, technology, and social media including the ability to conceptualize web content and design
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, and Canva
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • High degree of self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Video production and photography experience preferred, but not required
  • Supervisory experience preferred, but not required
