JOB SUMMARY:
Position Description:
We seek a passionate and dedicated Elementary School General Music Instructor to inspire young students through the power of music. The instructor will be responsible for delivering engaging, age-appropriate music lessons that foster a love for music, develop fundamental musical skills, and align with state and national music education standards.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement a comprehensive music curriculum that includes singing, movement, rhythm, instrumental instruction, and music appreciation.
* Incorporate sacred music, liturgical hymns, and traditional Catholic songs into lessons and school Masses to help students actively participate in worship.
* Teach basic music theory, notation, and instrumental techniques using engaging and developmentally appropriate methods.
* Plan and lead school-wide liturgical music for Masses, prayer services, and special religious celebrations.
* Prepare students for school concerts, performances, and community events reflecting musical growth and Catholic traditions.
* Collaborate with classroom teachers, the parish community, and school leadership to integrate music into cross-curricular learning and faith formation.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and faith-centered learning environment where students develop confidence and a deeper appreciation for music.
* Assess student progress through informal and formal assessments, providing constructive feedback to support musical and spiritual growth.
* Maintain and care for classroom instruments and music materials, ensuring they support an engaging learning experience.
* Communicate with parents and guardians about student progress and upcoming musical events.
* Stay current with best practices in music education and Catholic liturgical music through professional development and collaboration with colleagues.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (required).
* State teaching certification in music (preferred).
* Experience teaching music at the elementary level, preferably in a Catholic school.
* Familiarity with Catholic liturgical music and a willingness to lead music for school Masses and religious celebrations.
* Proficiency in playing and teaching various musical instruments, including piano and/or guitar.
* Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage young learners in a faith-centered environment.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Students
* Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
* Supervise students during music classes, rehearsals, performances, and related activities.
* Manage student behavior using positive reinforcement and school-approved discipline strategies.
* Ensure students are prepared and conduct themselves appropriately during school events, concerts, and Mass.
Classroom & Materials
* Oversee the care and maintenance of musical instruments, classroom equipment, and instructional materials.
* Establish procedures for the responsible use of instruments and other resources.
* Organize and maintain a clean and orderly music room.
Volunteers
* Guide parent volunteers, teacher aides, or student assistants during performances, rehearsals, and special events.
* Communicate expectations and roles clearly to ensure smooth event coordination.
Concerts & Performances
* Supervise and direct students during school concerts, liturgical celebrations, assemblies, and community performances.
* Ensure students follow performance guidelines, arrival times, and behavior expectations during events.
* Coordinate logistics for performances, including set-up, equipment, and student placement.
School & Community Engagement
* Collaborate with school staff, administration, and parish leadership in a Catholic school to coordinate music-related activities.
* Communicate with parents regarding student participation in performances and school-wide music events.
Safety & Security
* Enforce school safety procedures during classes, transitions, and events.
* Monitor students closely during field trips or off-site music events.
* Ensure compliance with school policies related to student supervision and well-being.

Schedule:
7:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m., Monday-Friday
Some nights and weekends are involved based on the school calendar and contract requirements.

Employment Terms:
* Position under contract.
* Pass a background check.
* Obtain and stay current with Virtus training.
* Wages are paid semi-monthly, on the 15th and last day of the month.
