Position Summary: The school psychologist is responsible for supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of all students by applying expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior. This role includes collaboration with educators, families, and the community to create safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) License for School Psychology
- Preferred:
- Experience in conducting assessments, developing interventions, and providing consultation in a school setting.
- Strong knowledge of special education law (IDEA, Section 504) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
- Effective communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assessment and Data Interpretation
- Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational assessments to evaluate students' cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral functioning.
- Use data to develop meaningful, culturally responsive recommendations that guide individualized education plans (IEPs) and student support strategies.
- Prepare clear, accessible psychoeducational reports for staff and families.
- Consultation and Collaboration
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop strategies that enhance student learning and well-being.
- Provide guidance to families to understand assessment results, child development, and strategies for supporting their child’s growth.
- Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary team discussions, and professional development
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in compliance with federal, state, and district policies
- Support staff through professional development on topics like trauma-informed practices, behavior management, and mental health awareness.
- Intervention and Counseling
- Deliver short-term, evidence-based counseling to support students in managing immediate social-emotional challenges, while collaborating with community resources for long-term or intensive mental health needs
- Facilitate crisis intervention for students experiencing suicidal ideation, self-harm, or other immediate risks.
- Design and implement small group interventions to address social skills, coping strategies, and emotional regulation.
- Prevention and Systems-Level Support
- Actively participate in the development and implementation of MTSS frameworks, including academic and behavioral interventions.
- Collaborate on school-wide initiatives to promote a positive, inclusive school climate and mental health awareness.
- Conduct screenings to identify students who may need additional supports and develop appropriate interventions.
- Special Education and Legal Compliance
- Serve as a key member of IEP and 504 teams, helping to develop, implement, and monitor individualized plans.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and district policies while maintaining accurate, confidential records.
- Provide training to staff on legal responsibilities, referral processes, and best practices for supporting students with disabilities.
- Professional Growth & Development
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices, ethics, and advancements in the field.
- Attend required training, workshops, and staff meetings
- Engage in continuous improvement through collaboration, feedback, and self-reflection
- Implement innovative teaching techniques and educational strategies
- Other Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in school events, meetings, and conferences as required.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school administration.
- Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or pushing of materials and classroom equipment
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, via phone, and through electronic means
- Work is primarily performed in classroom/office settings, with occasional outdoor supervision and off-site activities
Terms of Employment
- Contract Length: 202 days per school year.
- Evaluation: Performance evaluations will be conducted by the Building Principal or Assistant Principal in accordance with Hudson School District Board of Education policies.
