The Nicolet Union High School District is a four year public high school with a multicultural student population of approximately 1100 students. Nicolet serves the Milwaukee suburbs of Bayside, Fox Point, Glendale and River Hills. SUMMARY
This role is a key role of the student services team, dedicated to supporting Internship and Youth Apprenticeship to increase access to work experiences for students 9-12, and fostering postsecondary readiness for all students, particularly focusing on equitable access for students with disabilities and other historically underserved populations. This role emphasizes mentorship, resource connection, and individualized and group-based support, as needed, to ensure students are prepared for life after high school.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of bachelor’s degree required.

A minimum of three years experience in education, special education, school counseling, or a related field (e.g., social work, transition coordination).

Experience with high school special education students preferred.

Strong understanding of IEP processes, transition planning, and Wisconsin’s Academic and Career Planning (ACP) guidelines.
-
Experience supporting students through key academic transitions (e.g., middle-to-high school, high school-to-postsecondary).
-
Experience developing career pathways, internships, and employment readiness opportunities.
-
Proven ability to mentor students and implement equity-focused programs.
-
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills to engage effectively with students, families, staff, and community partners.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to create powerpoints, handouts, and videos using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on topics to top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics in regards to data analysis. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations and annual budgets.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possess or be eligible to possess a valid State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Certification, grades 9-12 in education, special education, school counseling, or related field.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use personal computers and certain software packages.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; smell, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

EVALUATION
The Career and Transition Coordinator will be evaluated against the employee job description annually or more as needed, by the Director of Student Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Internship and Employment Pathways
The career and transition coordinator will partner with the Internship Coordinator to identify, create, and promote viable pathways to internships, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities for all students, with and without disabilities, including Youth Apprenticeship pilot with CESA 1, ensuring pathways are accessible to all abilities.
The career and transition coordinator will visit assignment location to monitor student performance in job/work experience placements
The career and transition coordinator will connect students, families, and support staff with career exploration opportunities, job readiness resources, and community partnerships.
The career and transition coordinator advertise opportunities to students and families through individual and group meetings, newsletters, and classroom outreach.
The career and transition coordinator will provide training to students and staff (teachers, counselors, administrators) on employment topics.
Transition Support for Students with Disabilities
The career and transition coordinator will serve as a point person for students with disabilities,families, and special education staff to help identify and connect them with community resources that support successful postsecondary transitions.
The career and transition coordinator will attend IEP meetings to collaborate with teams and outline postsecondary options, including employment, college, and independent living pathways.
The career and transition coordinator will work closely with special education staff to ensure seamless support for students' individualized transition needs.
The career and transition coordinator collaborate with staff and external agencies to ensure smooth transitions to postsecondary education, training, or employment.
The career and transition coordinator provide training to students and staff (teachers, counselors, administrators) on transition topics
Mentorship and Equity Support
The career and transition coordinator will provide targeted mentorship to a cohort disproportionately represented with specific learning disabilities to address the disproportionality in outcomes compared to their peers.
The career and transition coordinator will design and implement programs to foster academic success, career readiness, and equitable opportunities for these students.
Academic and Career Planning (ACP)
The career and transition coordinator support the implementation of Wisconsin’s ACP guidelines by working with teachers, counselors, and administrators to integrate career exploration and postsecondary planning throughout the curriculum as part of the PoL team.

Professional Responsibility and School Engagement
The career and transition coordinator serves as a positive role model.

The career and transition coordinator fosters a safe, positive and inclusive school culture.
The career and transition coordinator serves as an advocate for all students.
The career and transition coordinator attends workshops, seminars and workdays as defined by the Superintendent, Principal, Director of Curriculum and Instruction or Student Services Director.
The career and transition coordinator consults with teachers, parents and administrators regarding meeting the students’ developmental needs.
The career and transition coordinator may participate in classroom presentations.
The career and transition coordinator participates in departmental professional development activities.
The career and transition coordinator participates in department meetings.
The career and transition coordinator participates on interview teams when requested.
The career and transition coordinator works on committees arising from the District Leadership Team.
