Position Details
Job Goal:
The Farm Hand is responsible for assisting with oversight and supervision at the SOAR Center under direction of the High School during the summer.
Reports to:
-
Daily communication with the High School Agriculture teacher.

Evaluated by High School administration.
Job Responsibilities:

Work closely with the High School Agriculture department to support the learning goals of the farm.

Monitor student and volunteer behavior and safety while working at the farm.

Perform twice daily farm chores.

Monitor and observe the animals and their daily activities and make care decisions based on these observations under consultation with the agriculture teacher.

Perform all other duties as assigned or required in consultation with the High School Agriculture teacher and/or High School Administration.
Schedule:
This is a 7 day-a-week, 6 hours/day (on average) position that will start on Thursday, June 5, 2025 and run through Thursday, August 21, 2025.
This position can be held by one person or divided between multiple people, depending on applicant preference and availability.
7:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. for morning session
4:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. for evening session
Note: depending on the needs of the farm, some days may require additional time
Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Strong knowledge of farm operations and how to safely work with and around farm animals and tools.

Previous experience caring for farm animals (cattle, goats, chickens, etc.) preferred.

Ability to interact positively with school-aged students and community volunteers of all ages.

Ability to assist with and organize educational programming and events at the farm. Some of these programs and events may be outside of the standard hours for this position and will be compensated as such.

Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Ability to follow directions and work independently.

Establish and maintain effective working relations with all stakeholders.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Physical Requirements:
This work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, lifting, speaking, hearing and occasionally requires pushing, pulling, lifting, and operating machines; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing surroundings and activities at the school farm; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (traffic, animal noises, equipment noises).
