Position Description: Sauk Prairie School District is looking for a student-centered, educator with a growth mindset to join our district & to serve in the role of Elementary School Psychologist. This position is open due to a retirement & due to growing the position from .6 to 1.0 FTE. This position serves a critical role supporting student needs within a multi-level system of supports for academic & social/emotional learning in two of our elementary buildings. Grand Avenue is the educational home to approximately 400 students in grades 3-5. Tower Rock provides education to approximately 220 students in grades K-5.

Essential Functions: The expected responsibilities aligned with this position reflect Comprehensive & Integrated School Psychological Services articulated by the National Association of School Psychologists.

1. Organization & evaluation ● Use of data collection & analysis that reflects culturally sensitive practices & informs programming for students within a Multi-Level System of Supports ● Knowledge & use of assessment tools that do not contain a cultural bias ● Prioritize time meeting directly with student/family to better understand the student as an individual & to gain a deep understanding of family information ● Demonstration of meeting facilitation that encourages family participation & authentic discussion that extends beyond meeting points of compliance

2. Climate ● Demonstration of effective collaborative communication ● Serve as a leader of collaborative problem solving when considering student needs & supports ● Serve as a leader for equitable practices for all populations ● Available to staff & families for problem-solving discussions

3. Physical, personnel & fiscal support ● Demonstrate strong, current foundational skills & knowledge related to the field of School Psychology that promote equitable practices for all student populations ● Demonstrate leadership pertaining to the law of education & special education ● Provide training focused on effective de-escalation ● Provide direct services to students

4. Professional communication ● Use of inclusive communication style that encourages respectful & authentic dialogue/discussion with students, staff & families

5. Supervision, peer consultation & mentoring ● Engage in community conversations & partnerships ● Collaborate with school safety team members to inform practices that proactively promote safe & supportive schools ● Serve as key member of building teams that address MLSS at both building & district levels

6. Professional development & recognition ● Provide professional development on school-wide practices that promote learning for all students ● Provide professional development on range of services available to students & families to support mental & behavioral health ● Serve as a resource for special education practices through a legal lens

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Strong verbal & written communications

  3. Ability to collaborate with & lead a variety of teams
  4. Ability to coordinate & lead professional development for small & large groups of adult learners
  5. Experience that includes working with: ● Multi-Tiered System of Supports ● Data collection & analysis ● Strategies to support students with a variety of learning needs ● Culturally & Linguistically Responsive Practices
  6. Valid driver's license & possible use of personal vehicle
  7. Ability to lift/move boxes up to 30 lbs

WI DPI license certification required: 62 - School Psychologist

Minimum Qualifications: ● Master degree ● Experience conducting IDEA evaluations

Preference given to candidates with any of the following desired qualifications:

  • Educational Specialist or Doctorate Degree in School Psychology
  • Bilingual
  • Experience with coaching staff on IEP programming, IEP implementation & Multi-Level System of Supports (MSS) for academics & behavior
  • Experience with developing & leading professional development
  • Knowledge of literacy, math &/or social emotional learning/positive behavior intervention & support
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds

The district includes Sauk City and Prairie du Sac, two “next door” villages known as Sauk Prairie. They are located on the beautiful Wisconsin River. Thirteen towns & the village of Merrimac are also in the district. The area features rolling hills, meadows, bluffs, forests, lakes & streams. The district offers small-town, rural living with easy access to the Madison urban area (25 miles) & to the Wisconsin Dells recreation area (28 miles). The district serves almost 2,900 students, & comprises six learning communities with a high school, middle school & four elementary schools.
