REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid State of Wisconsin licensure: Art (550); must be certified to teach grades 6-12.

  2. Strong written and oral communication skills.

  3. Thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of Secondary Art Education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Experience as a Secondary Art Teacher.

  2. Training in and experience with the National Art Standards.

  3. Experience and training with Standards-Based Grading.

 JOB GOALS:  Ensure that all students learn optimally.

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:  (All the following are considered to be the essential functions of the position.)

  1. Consistently display the qualities as described in the attached teacher standards and indicators. 

  2. Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet grade-level, school, and district goals.

  3. Broad base of knowledge in working with various media.

  4. Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying artistic abilities and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.

  5. Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgements about art.

  6. Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings.

  7. Instruct students in proper care, safety of equipment, and use of tools and equipment.

  8. Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection. 

  9. Establish procedures and protocols for various art room activities.

  10. Conduct an annual art show that displays students’ work from throughout the school year.

  11. Adhere to all expectations described in the Employee Handbook.

  12. Comply with district policies, operating procedures, and school requirements.

  13. Communicate with parents on students’ progress.

  14. Keep such records as are required by Board regulations, principals, and the District Administrator.

  15. These records include, but are not limited to, data entered in the Student Information System (Skyward), lesson plans, and classroom inventory.

  16. Attend all meetings called by the principal and the District Administrator, including in-service training meetings scheduled by the District Administrator and special meetings called by principals. 

  17. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the principal.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and benefits as negotiated with the District Administrator. 

EVALUATION:  The secondary principal shall evaluate the performance of Art teachers.
