Join an innovative, learner-centered, and trauma-invested school district that's changing lives through the power of learning! Located in rural Waukesha County (Big Bend/Mukwonago/Waterford area), the Norris School District and its flagship program, Norris Academy, are pioneering a new approach to education; the development of community based learning ecosystems. Within that ecosystem, the Learning Design Specialist guides learners in creating personalized learning pathways connected to real-world opportunities within their community. Through advisory sessions, they help learners explore and connect with jobs, internships, clubs, cultural experiences, nature, fitness, and other areas of interest. The Specialist collaborates with learners to reflect on their experiences, evaluate evidence of learning, and map tpast, present, and future learning experiences to relevant competencies. They collaborate closely with the Community Liason to secure community partners to offer expieriential learning, job shadows, and externships in a learners area of interest.
The Learning Design Specialist may support learners at Norris' flagship campus, Norris Academy, as well as learners enrolled in our virtual program (NAVS) and those at other learning hubs throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Since NAVS currently has two learning hubs (Learn MKE) in Milwaukee, familiarity with those neighborhoods is beneficial.
The ideal candidate is a flexible educator with a growth mindset and a passion for refining and evolving Norris's community-based learning ecosystem. While a variety of certifications and experiences will be considered, a general understanding of competencies across all academic areas, employability, citizenship, and wellness is essential. Strong technology, organizational, and communication skills are required. Special Education certification is a bonus!
