Position Details
The primary responsibility of the Athletic, Fitness Center, and Aquatics Director is to manage and oversee the district's interscholastic athletic program, physical training, fitness center, and aquatics programming.
Qualifications:

High level of understanding of competitive high school athletics.

Working knowledge of recreation programs including fitness and aquatic centers.
Employment Preferences:

Prior experience as an athletic director or athletic/activities coordinator in a public school district.

Bachelor’s degree with teaching, administrative, and/or coaching experience.

Three or more years as a head coach at the varsity or post-secondary level.

Working knowledge of WIAA rules and regulations.

Certified in First Aid and AED (training will be provided if needed).
Job Goal: The primary role of the athletic and community recreation director is to lead the
athletic programs at the high school and the community recreation programs. This leader also must maintain and further develop high standards of extracurricular participation, athletic competition, sportsmanship, and good character.
Supervises: All Coaching Staff, Fitness Center, Aquatics Program, and Athletic Program
Terms: 260 days
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilities, Scheduling, Event, Transportation, and Equipment Management

Schedules all athletic competitions by creating and maintaining a master athletic schedule, while collaborating with head coaches for input and preferences.

Assists in supervision of athletic events as needed.

Manages home and visiting team use of facilities; coordinates the use of facilities with outside groups.
-
Arranges and manages travel for regular season, post season, and summer events.
-
Secures game manager, officials, game workers, chain crews, announcers, clock operators, scorekeepers, line judges, and other required staff for all contests and events.

Coordinates with opposing teams, officials, and event staff to ensure all necessary event details—such as time, location, and other relevant information—are clearly communicated.

Responsible for equipment inventory, maintenance, and repair, ordering supplies and equipment as needed.

Manages aquatic facilities by securing lifeguards and instructors; develop a comprehensive swim lesson program. Maintains a schedule and calendar for the pool.

Manages the fitness center by securing student or adult workers; develop a comprehensive fitness center program. Maintains and clearly communicates a schedule and calendar for the fitness center.

Maintains the equipment in the fitness center and ensure proper use of all equipment and facilities associated with the fitness center.

Develops and maintains the procedures and policies of the fitness center, pool, and all associated facilities, making sure facilities are cared for and in top shape.

Develops and manages a comprehensive community recreation program. Maintains a schedule and calendar for the community recreation program.
Supervisory
-
Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate a team of coaches and student workers.

Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate lifeguards and swim instructors.
-
Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate fitness center supervisors
-
Guide and develop student-athletes through the creation of leadership teams, promoting strong connections between athletics, academics, and community involvement.

Responsible for the supervision of coaches, ensuring that all coaches meet WIAA and school district requirements.

Responsible for the application of the code of conduct.
-
Disseminate WIAA materials and enforce WIAA rules and regulations evenly.
-
Recommends disciplinary action on athletic violations by coaches or athletes.
-
Provide professional development and in-service support for coaching staff as needed.
Administration
-
Ensures safety in athletic areas by developing safety policies and procedures, and collaborating with district buildings and grounds personnel.
-
Maintains student athlete records including evidence of physicals, insurance, and compliance requirements.
-
Collaborates with the high school principal to strengthen the connection between academics and co-curricular activities, fostering teamwork among teachers, coaches, parents, and student-athletes.

Creates a strength and conditioning program for student athletes. Collaborates with coaches to implement the program.

Develops and updates handbooks, policies, guides, etc. Distribute athletic training rules yearly to all participants.

Organize and lead at least one annual co-curricular meeting for the entire school community to align parents, student-athletes, coaches, and administration on expectations and goals.

Manages department budget, supervises athletic funds, prepares a detailed operating budget for the athletic program and submits it to the building principal. Manages payment and record keeping for all officials and workers at events.

Collaborates and communicates with the business office to ensure efficient and effective budget adherence and proper financial management.

Maintains and updates the athletics, activities, and community recreation websites.

Creates social media content to promote district events.
-
Manages first level of community concerns and complaints.
-
Oversees student academic eligibility, behavior, and code of conduct matters.

Coordinates the ordering and distribution of athletic awards, including, letters, pins, end of season awards, etc.

Coordinates collegiate signing events.
-
Develops policy and procedure recommendations.
Leadership
-
Actively supports and contributes to the district strategic plan.

Create and implement strategic initiatives that ensure department growth and the development of competitive and sustainable programs.
-
Communicate a clear vision to guide coaches and the community, ensuring student-athlete success.

Represent Cedar Grove-Belgium School District at conference, regional, and WIAA meetings and events as district resources allow.
-
Evaluates athletic and community programming and engages in long-range planning. Create athletic department goals and annual reports.
-
Supports Hall of Fame events and procedures.
Miscellaneous
-
Knowledge of nutrition, strength training, liability, hazing, harassment, trends in athletics and fitness.

Other job duties as assigned by the High School Principal or District Administrator.
