DeForest is a growing suburban community located approximately 10 miles northeast of Madison. We are committed to continuous improvement, grounded in our community's mission and vision for our schools. DeForest Area School District staff strive to acquire a deep understanding of systemic biases within the educational system. Part of this process is discovering how their role as a change agent may work within a collective of staff, students, parents and community members. Our goal is to shift our educational system in a manner that actively creates equitable outcomes for all students. The District offers excellent salary, benefits, and professional development opportunities. Our staff development model, equipped with coaches, mentors, online learning resources and professional learning communities, supports staff in their individualized, self-determined growth.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Elementary STEM Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in young learners. The STEM Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging STEM curriculum, fostering collaboration among students, and contributing to the growth of a creative, inquiry-based learning environment. This role requires excellent communication, planning, and collaboration skills to work effectively with both students and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Development: Create, implement, and evaluate innovative STEM programs and lesson plans tailored to meet the needs of elementary school students. Design engaging, hands-on activities that encourage exploration, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Collaborative Teaching: Work closely with other teachers and staff to integrate STEM concepts across various subject areas. Collaborate with grade-level teams to align curriculum with school-wide educational goals and foster a collaborative learning environment.
Communication: Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration. Provide regular updates on student progress, achievements, and areas for improvement. Maintain open communication with families to engage them in the learning process.
Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes student participation and growth. Foster a safe and respectful space where all students feel encouraged to explore STEM concepts and ask questions.
Planning and Organization: Plan and organize instructional time, resources, and classroom space efficiently. Manage schedules, materials, and supplies to support hands-on learning activities.
Assessment and Feedback: Continuously assess student understanding and progress through formative and summative assessments. Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and adjust instruction to meet individual learning needs.
Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in STEM education. Actively participate in school-wide professional development opportunities, and work collaboratively with colleagues to refine teaching practices.
