The Elkhorn Area School District is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Technology to lead the strategic planning, implementation, and management of all technology systems and initiatives across the district. This role is critical in ensuring the integration of technology into the educational environment, supporting both instructional and administrative functions. The Director of Technology will oversee a team of IT professionals and collaborate with educators, administrators, and external partners to enhance the district’s technological capabilities. This role requires a combination of leadership, technical expertise, and a passion for advancing the use of technology in the educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive technology plan that aligns with the district's educational goals and operational needs.
- Team Leadership: Supervise the technology department staff, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Budget Management: Prepare and manage the technology budget, ensuring cost-effective allocation of resources.
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of the district's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and telecommunications systems.
- Educational Technology Integration: Collaborate with educators to integrate technology into the curriculum and provide training and support for effective technology use in classrooms.
- Data Security and Compliance: Ensure the security of the district's data and compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including FERPA and COPPA.
- Technical Support: Develop and maintain a reliable system for IT support, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical issues across the district.
- Vendor Relations: Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers, negotiating contracts and ensuring the delivery of quality services.
- Innovation and Trends: Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in educational technology, recommending new initiatives to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
- Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between the technology department and district stakeholders, providing clear communication about technology initiatives and developments.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five years of experience in technology management, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Strong knowledge of network systems, databases, cloud services, educational technology tools, and cybersecurity practices.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including educators, administrators, students, and parents.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to train and mentor staff on the effective use of technology.
- Experience in budget preparation and management.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations related to technology in education and student data privacy.
- This position requires a high level of confidentiality.
Working Conditions:
The position is primarily based in an office environment but requires regular visits to various schools within the district. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to accommodate system upgrades or address urgent technical issues.
