Job Title:  Football-Varsity Head Coach

Organization: New London High School

Reports to: Athletic Director 

Position Summary: The Head Football Coach is responsible for all aspects of the high school football program, including player recruitment, coaching, game planning, and team development. The head coach will collaborate with the middle school football coaches and work with stakeholders to develop a youth football program. The coach will foster a positive and competitive environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.

2025-26 Additional Anticipated Certified Teaching Opportunities: High School Business Education, High School Science, Middle School Science, Middle School Physical Education, Elementary Special Education, Middle School Dean of Students 

Key Responsibilities:

     Coaching and Instruction: 

  • Develop and implement effective coaching strategies and techniques.
  • Conduct practices, drills, and scrimmages to improve player skills and team performance.
  • Teach and enforce proper football fundamentals and techniques.
  • Collaborate and mentor assistant coaches
     Game Planning and Strategy:
  • Analyze opponent's strengths and weaknesses to develop effective game plans.
  • Make in-game adjustments to maximize team performance.
  • Collaborate with the coaching staff to develop offensive, defensive, and special teams strategies.

     Player Development:

  • Recruit and develop talented student-athletes.
  • Motivate and inspire players to achieve their full potential.
  • Provide individual and group instruction to improve player skills.
  • Foster a positive and supportive team environment.
     Program Management:
  • Manage all aspects of the football program, including budgets, equipment, and facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all school, conference, and WIAA regulations.
  • Organize and supervise team travel, fundraising activities, and community outreach events.

     Communication and Collaboration:

  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, school administrators, and the community.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other athletic coaches and school staff to support student-athletes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred.
  • Valid coaching certification and first aid/CPR certification.
  • Proven experience as a successful high school football coach (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of football rules, strategies, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and develop young athletes.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to student success.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment.
