Position Details
The Lakeland Union High School District is located in Minocqua, nestled in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. The Lakeland area is noted for recreational pursuits including lakes, forests, and a range of seasonal sports, and is also known for its tourism and health facilities.
The Lakeland Union High School District is one of ten union high schools in the State of Wisconsin, providing a comprehensive high school education to students in grades 9-12. It is also the largest geographical school district in the State of Wisconsin, encompassing over 800 square miles. The district is supported by four independent elementary districts and includes parts of Vilas, Oneida, and Iron counties and the reservation of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. The district is home to approximately 720 students and employs nearly 80 professional staff and 40 support staff. The district is governed by a nine-person Board of Education.
LUHS utilizes a compensation plan that was developed in conjunction with the staff and provides opportunities for growth in all employment areas. The essential duties of the job are below.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Payroll
a. Enters and extracts all data for timely payroll processing.
b. Completes all processing for payroll procedures, including verification of data before check/EFT statements are printed, transmittal of electronic files (ACH), and processing of deduction and benefit payments to vendors.
c. Maintains electronic records of payroll system upon completion of payroll.
d. Processes Unemployment Compensation (UC) transmittal files.
2. Accounts Payable
a. Reconcile and pay invoices across multiple platforms (mailed invoice, direct debit, ACH, etc.).
b. Supports and communicates spending and payment procedures established by the Business Office.
c. Maintains appropriate records such as W-9’s and receipts related to purchasing transactions in both electronic and paper formats where appropriate.
d. Maintain purchasing authority designations with local vendors for district staff.
3. Both
a. Maintains appropriate documentation related to his/her areas of responsibility for the annual audit.
b. Other duties as assigned; significant duties added on a long-term basis will be brought to the Board of Education for approval.
c. Provides superior customer service to all stakeholders, both internal and external.
d. Support the day-to-day operations of the Business Office including answering employee questions, processing non-electronic time sheets and special pays, changes to miscellaneous employee deductions, handbook clarifications related to payroll, vendor questions regarding payment, etc.
e. Use data mining tools in various software applications to produce reports.
f. Coordinates general district supply closet orders for staff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Education (preferred but not required)
a. Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field.
b. Training on state and federal financial reporting requirements.
c. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite, Skyward, and related software.
2. Experience (preferred but not required):
a. Knowledge of state and federal reporting requirements, particularly W-2’s, 1099’s, WT-7, ACA, and WRS.
b. Using tact and diplomacy in dealing with people.
c. Compiling, organizing, preparing and maintaining an assortment of records, reports and information in an effective and efficient manner.
d. Performing work with a high degree of accuracy and promptness.
e. Designing and implementing office practices and procedures.
f. Experience at a school district or CESA using the WUFAR accounting code system
g. Experience using Skyward software.
