JOB GOAL
To assist the teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups of students to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole and assist in student supervision.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under the supervision of the teacher, works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills.
2. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies and materials for reinforcing skills based on individual student needs, interest, and/or abilities.
3. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and/or remedial work as identified by teacher.
4. Assists with such large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and story-telling.
5. Meets regularly with and alerts the classroom teacher to any problems or special information about an individual student.
6. Maintains a high level of ethical behavior.
7. Participates in appropriate and approved in-service training programs.
8. Records and documents academic and behavioral data, including rating scales and medical documentation.
9. Maintains confidentiality of student and family information as per applicable state and federal regulations.
10. Assists the teacher in duties relating to the supervision of playground, study hall, cafeteria, and bus loading activities.
11. Supervises students in large groups to reinforce play activities and game skills, generally on the playground or in multi-purpose rooms.
12. Applies basic first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automated external defibrillator), if trained, or requests assistance of others more knowledgeable.
13. Performs health care procedures for students, when delegated and supervised by the school nurse.
14. Provides appropriate verbal and physical interventions, utilizing Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or other programs as trained and directed by teaching staff and administration.
15. Assists students with disabilities in community-based instruction and vocational work experiences as applicable.
16. Assists in the operation and maintenance of assistive devices and adaptive equipment utilized by students as applicable.
17. Performs such other related tasks as assigned by the building principal or immediate supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate Degree Preferred
2. Teacher Paraprofessional training courses, or current enrollment in the teacher paraprofessional education courses appropriate to the level of the
job opening or their equivalent.
3. Any college credits and experience will be evaluated also.
4. Experience working with children or young adults preferred.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate.
