If you are not currently a licensed Substitute Teacher or Teacher, you need to have 1) a minimum of an Associate Degree and have completed Substitute Teacher Training OR 2) meet the requirements as an education bachelor's degree seeking student.
WI DPI has multiple approved options for completing the Substitute Teacher Training requirement to become licensed as a Substitute Teacher. Visit the following website to view the approved list of training programs: https://dpi.wi.gov/licensing/apply-educator-license/sub-permit.
Once you have completed the Substitute Teacher Training, you will then need to apply for a Short-Term Substitute Teacher License with WI DPI. You must be licensed (or have applied for your license) before you will be able to substitute teach. Link to application directions: https://dpi.wi.gov/licensing/apply-educator-license/sub-permit/degree-training.
If you are applying for the Short-Term Substitute Teacher License as an education bachelor's degree seeking student, you will need to have your program complete the Substitute Teacher Educator Preparation program Verification Form.
