Position Details
Volunteer Hours: Hours vary based on schedule developed by volunteer; may include hours on evenings, weekends, and holidays. Average weekly position will be 20 hours.
I. Assignment Summary:
Responsible for providing leadership support to the HS Softball program at the District. Provides the necessary practice, support, advice, and guidance for the Softball team to be successful against opposing teams in the Softball season. Conduct practices, motivate students, and instruct student athletes in game strategies and techniques. Required to educate students through participation in Softball, which is designed to enhance academic achievement. Shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct. Promote the entire co-curricular program of the District and direct the Softball program in harmony with the educational mission and values of the District.
II. Primary Duties and Essential Responsibilities of Assignment:

Support a culture within the Softball program of commitment, dedication, discipline, strong work ethic, good sportsmanship, and team pride.

Work with the varsity head coach in developing team strategy, and implementing program expectations and rules through all levels of the Softball program.

Show appropriate respect and sportsmanship toward officials, parents, opposing coaches, visiting teams, fans, media, students, teachers and support staff.

Promote academic excellence and strict adherence to the co-curricular code.

Develop and implement practice plans that promote fundamental skill development and teach team strategy.

Set a positive example for the students and inspire and assist them to improve as a student-athlete.

Treat each student with the utmost respect and consider his or her welfare at all times.

Required punctual attendance at every practice, match and team activity.

Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments.

With the assistance of the Head Coach and the District Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, implement a strength and conditioning programs for student athletes.

Assist in managing an equipment inventory, issuing and collecting equipment, uniforms, and supplies to athletes, and developing and managing a program budget.

Complete required NFHS, CPR/AED, InsideOut and other district required trainings.

Master the rules and regulations of the sport of Softball and instruct and educate team members of the rules. Complete WIAA sport-specific rules test and pre-season rules videos annually.

Encourage students to participate in more than one sport.

Follow all policies and procedures in the SSD Coaches’ Handbook.

Perform any other duties related to your position as needed or directed by the HS Varsity Head Softball Coach, building principal or Activities Director.
Minimum Qualifications of Assignment
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport of Softball.

Communication and leadership skills.

Ability to use independent judgment.
-
Ability to express drills and strategies clearly and concisely, in such a way as to reach students.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, other District employees and volunteers, opposing teams, and the public.
Licenses and Certifications: Possess (or be willing to complete within the first year) all WIAA required coaching certifications, a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and maintain minimum district insurance requirements. Complete and pass a background check as conducted by the District, provide verification of a physical examination and a negative TB test result prior to beginning employment with the District, as required by state statute. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid training are required. Drug testing and job training may be required.
