Indian Hill School serves approximately 230 students in grades 4K-3 from Bayside, Fox Point, Glendale, River Hills, and the Greater Milwaukee area. The key accountabilities for this position are:

Instructional Leadership: This area guides and supports the school’s academic vision and curriculum implementation. The principal ensures that teaching practices are effective, students are engaged and making progress, instructional time is optimized, and school compliance with legal and procedural requirements (i.e. Special Education, DPI rules, etc.). The principal monitors and assesses teaching quality, leads professional development, and uses data to inform educational decisions in collaborative teams. The principal also ensures that the schedule prioritizes academic excellence.

Staff and Organizational Leadership: This area involves managing the school’s human resources, and fostering a supportive and accountable work environment for staff. The principal oversees hiring, onboarding, and evaluating staff, sets expectations for employee performance, and leads staff meetings and professional learning communities (PLCs). The principal also ensures that the staff is equipped with the tools and support needed to succeed, and cultivates a culture of trust, collaboration, and transparency.

School Culture and Climate: Principals are responsible for shaping the school’s overall environment and ensuring it is conducive to learning. This includes promoting a positive, inclusive climate, managing conflicts, ensuring student safety, and creating an atmosphere where students and staff feel respected and supported. The principal is visible, approachable, and committed to fostering a culture that prioritizes students’ academic and emotional well-being.

Community and Stakeholder Engagement: The principal builds strong relationships with parents, community organizations, and external stakeholders to support student success. The principal works collaboratively with families, the PTO/Education Foundation/etc., and navigates the needs of a diverse school community.

Operational Leadership and Management: The principal keeps everything running efficiently while supporting the instructional and cultural priorities of the school. The principal manages the school’s resources and operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. The principal oversees budgeting, facilities, scheduling, and the execution of day-to-day strategic plans. The principal ensures that the school runs smoothly, from student behavior management to maintaining a safe, well-organized physical environment.
