Organizational Overview:

Notre Dame School of Milwaukee (NDSM) is a Catholic School founded by the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Milwaukee, WI.  The school was founded in 1996 as Notre Dame Middle School, an all girls 5th-8th grade middle school to serve Latinas on the southside of Milwaukee. Today Notre Dame School of Milwaukee is a Grade K3-8 Catholic school sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. It has a co-education primary school serving boys and girls in a Spanish and English dual language model.  NDSM addresses the urgent, critical needs of the community through student-focused education.  We currently serve over 690 students across three campuses and we have both an all-boys and all-girls middle school, a co-ed primary school, and an Early Childhood Education program.  To learn more please visit our website at www.notredamemke.org.

Job Summary:

The art teacher is responsible for planning and implementing art education lessons and activities, monitoring students, and evaluating student outcomes from K3-3rd Grade.

The teacher is accountable to the principal and assistant principal to provide education to the grades and/or subjects assigned, to implement the Notre Dame School mission and philosophy, to follow the policies of Notre Dame School, and adhere to the directives set by Notre Dame School administration.

Education/Experience:  

  • Bachelors Degree

Responsibilities

  • Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  • Prepare and implement lesson plans, providing for appropriate learning experiences for each student.

  • Establish and enforce rules of conduct; supervise students in the classroom, and/or chapel.

  • Participate in school-wide behavioral programs, document student behavior.

  • Demonstrate skills being taught; assist students in performing skills.

  • Research and order art materials as needed.

  • Monitor and evaluate student skill levels and progress toward mastery of the instructional goals and objectives.

  • Maintain student records following established procedures and practices.

  • Prepare interim progress reports and trimester report cards.

  • Prepare information sheets for participation in parent-teacher conferences.

  • Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community through Dojo, phone calls, etc.

  • May plan and supervise field trips following established procedures.

  • Attend in-service training.

  • Prepare lesson plans and materials for substitute teachers; include class lists and any special instructions related to students’ special needs. Create emergency lesson plans.

  • Maintain regular, on-time attendance.

  • Knowledge of emergency systems for the school, such as lockdown procedures, fire drills.

  • Prepare for and participate in school, local, and regional performances, festivals and events.

  • Inventory equipment and maintain proper condition and storage of equipment.

  • Maintain professional work habits.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
