Danz Elementary School is a high-achieving community of diverse learners that celebrates individual talents and skills for success in our world. We are currently looking for a Special Education Paraprofessional for their needs in the Intellectual Disabilities special education area.  Spanish bilingual preferred.

This is a full time position during the student calendar year. The start and end times may vary as you may be assigned to ride the school bus to support students. Your scheduled days of the week and hours are subject to change based upon the educational staffing and safety needs of the District.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to):

Position follows the standard Paraprofessional essential functions including additional Special Education and Bilingual duties that include:
1. Provides instructional support by working individually or in small groups of students with learning, cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities, to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by the Special Education teacher.
2. Assists devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on the students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
4. Provide behavioral support by assisting teachers in maintaining discipline and encouraging acceptable behavior of students.
5. Provides personal health care of students including changing diapers, toileting students, changing students’ clothing, showering students, tube feeding, and catheterizing.
6. Transfer students in and out of holding and on/off buses, vans, etc.
7. Facilitate student’s use of mobility equipment such as leg braces, walkers, mobile standers, and tricycles.
8. Assists teachers on field trips by helping students with physical and behavioral needs, and reinforcing learning situations.
9. Uses physical restraint or seclusion in compliance with state and federal law and District policies and procedures in instances where there is danger to the
student or other students.
10. Responds to the physical and behavioral needs of students in cooperation with the bus driver, during transportation to/from school.
11. Administer first aid and provide basic nursing care as directed or authorized by a school nurse.
12. Provides playground, lunchroom, noon-hour, and bus supervision.
13. Consults and collaborates with Special Education and Regular Education teachers, participating in IEP's as requested.
14. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
15. Practices ethical and professional standards of conduct, including confidentiality.
16. Applies to work-related legal issues concerning the education of children and youth.
17. Adheres and follows work-related health, safety, and emergency procedures and practices.
18. Maintains confidentiality in verbal, written, and electronic communications.
19. Reads and translates a variety of materials (e.g., letters, instructional materials, brochures, articles, handbooks, bulletins, Individualized Education Plans (IEP), student records) in Spanish and/or English.
20. Supports Spanish speaking students and parents in the completion of required paperwork.
21. Verifies the translations made by other District staff for the purpose of reviewing and editing materials for accuracy, context, readability, grammar and style.
22. Supports other District staff when needed for the purpose of providing Spanish translation services.
23. Interprets between English and Spanish speaking individuals at meetings and conferences when needed and upon request.

Working Conditions:
1. Work is predominantly in school classroom environment.
2. Work involves frequent disruptions of daily schedule, with flexibility to adjust to continuously changing situations.
3. Work involves frequent deadlines under pressure to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
4. Work requires standing and circulating for extended periods of time.
5. Work includes communicating so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
7. Work involves bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, running, crawling, and reaching in all directions.
8. Work requires lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
• Education:
*Have at least two years of post-secondary education that is equivalent to at least 48 semester hours from an accredited higher education institution, OR
*Have obtained an associate (or higher) degree, OR
*Have met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).
•License: (can be ordered after being hired as will need a form from the District)
*Special Education Program Aide License (883), OR
*Any valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (WDPI) license.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
• Education: Associates Degree – Child Development or related field

• Experience:
*Prior experience working with children
*Working in an organized setting with children whose primary language is not English.
