Position Details
- Providing direct care to students and staff;
- Providing leadership for the provision of health services;
- Providing screening and referral for health conditions;
- Promoting a healthy school environment;
- Promoting health;
- Serving in a leadership role for health policies and programs; and
- Serving as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing from National League for Nursing accredited school.
- Valid license to practice as registered professional nurse in the state of Wisconsin.
- Valid driver’s license at time of employment and availability of a properly insured personal automobile for use on the job.
- Maintain current CPR/AED and first aid certification.
- School Nursing experience preferred (but not required).
- National School Nurse Certification preferred (but not required).
- Master’s degree in nursing or related health field preferred (but not required).
- Pediatric nursing experience preferred (but not required).
- Recommend school district policies and philosophy related to the Health Services Program.
- Provide supervision of building level health aides (5 buildings).
- Assess and evaluate the health and developmental status of school children.
- Promote and maintain health and well-being of students, families, and school personnel by teaching and counseling.
- Develop, implement and/or oversee an individual plan for the care of students with chronic health conditions or disabilities and students needing treatments or medication.
- Prevent communicable disease.
- Develop and maintain a system of first aid, recommend school safety measures, and promote a healthful school environment.
- Provide health education.
- Assume responsibility for continuing education and own professional development.
- Collect data and maintain records within professional and legal boundaries and school guidelines.
- Perform such other duties as may be directed.
Physical Requirements:
This work regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing and occasionally requires pushing, pulling, lifting, and operating machines; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and observing general surroundings and activities; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. school offices/classrooms/passageways).
