Full Time

The Berlin Area School District is searching for a motivated and reliable full time Custodian/Maintenance employee. The Custodial/Maintenance Staff performs preventative maintenance and custodial duties in and around District facilities; troubleshoots, performs repairs and responds to emergency calls for service; implements setup and takedown for a wide variety of campus and community events; works closely with employees and the public to meet the custodial needs of the area; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations in assigned areas.

More specifically, the ideal candidate will:
-Perform routine custodial work to include, but not limited to vacuuming, shampooing and spot cleaning carpets; removing trash in accordance with established procedures; scouring and sanitizing while stocking paper and supplies in restrooms, locker rooms, and other facilities.
-Maintain floors including cleaning and waxing.
-Perform outdoor work to include, but not limited to, snow removal, salt areas as needed, leaf pickup, sporting facilities clean up and gutter cleaning.
-Service, repair and maintain equipment in the Custodial Department.
-Perform routine and comprehensive custodial maintenance of assigned facilities.
-Report and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
-Set up and take down furniture and equipment for a wide variety of District or community events.
-Participate in set-ups and moves of offices and classrooms.
-Perform minor to moderate graffiti removal.
-Install classroom equipment such as shelving, maps, chalkboards, boards; paints workspaces after a move or relocation as requested.
-Maintain inventory and submit written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.
-Operate power equipment including, but not limited to, forklifts, carpet extractors, pressure washer, hand and power tools, snow removal and lawn mowing equipment, and District vehicles. Training will be provided by the Supervisor.
-Perform preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
-Secure building or area on a daily basis or as directed.
-Other duties as assigned.

Clay Lamberton Elementary (4K-5), Berlin Middle School (6-8), and Berlin High School (9-12) sit on the same campus and serve as a hub of activity for the greater Berlin community. The Berlin Area School District is composed of 14 municipalities, with the City of Berlin at the center. Berlin is a rural community with a population of 5,500 located approximately 20 minutes west of Oshkosh and 10 minutes north of Green Lake. The Fox River runs through the center of the historic Victorian downtown. Agriculture, health services, light industry and retail shops comprise Berlin’s economy.

Salary, benefits, and length of contract: 12 month, 260 day, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. during the school year with day shift hours during the summer. This position may require day and weekend hours during the school year. Hourly wage starting at $15.30 and an excellent benefits package.
