The Wauwatosa School District seeks a Long-term Substitute Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for Wilson Elementary School. Wilson serves approximately 340 students.
Position Summary: Long-term Substitute Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
Start Date: February 14, 2025
Tentative Dates: February 14, 2025 through May 16, 2025
Anticipated Daily Hours: 7:45 am - 11:15 am Monday - Thursday
Pay Rate: $95 per half day
Candidate will work alongside a general education teacher and assistant in our district's inclusive Tosa Tots early childhood program. The primary role of the candidate will be to support three and four year old students with special education needs as they work to engage in the classroom routine, develop positive social-emotional skills, and find success in a school environment.
REQUIRED:
- Relevant certification through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (Teaching Certification)
- Ability to differentiate instruction in mixed-ability classrooms
- Experience working with children (preferred)
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in both oral and written form
- Ability to work independently
Essential Job Functions:
- Follows lesson plan left by the teacher for whom he/she is substituting
- Maintains classroom environment conducive to effective learning
- Maintains a safe environment, taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, colleagues, visitors, materials, equipment, and facilities.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding students and staff
- Supervises students inside and outside the classroom
- Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, and recess periods
- Assists with personal care needs of students, including support in the bathroom and with diapering
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to multicultural and multilingual values and environments
- Holds expectations for high performance of self and students
- Performs various clerical functions (e.g., taking attendance)
- Demonstrates computer literacy and operates software programs as related to job responsibilities
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District
- Performs other duties as may be assigned
