Position Details
Ithaca School District is seeking a full-time elementary special education teacher to join our elementary teaching staff for the 2025-26 school year. The successful candidate will:
- Plan curriculum, lessons, strategies, and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students, considering state and school requirements, physical, emotional, and educational levels of development;
- Understand and develop behavior plans that align with student needs, the educational setting, and safety for all as well as help the student to learn and acclimate to positive behaviors;
- Work with parents/guardians to accept and develop skills to support their child's learning impairment;
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilties;
- Instruct students in all academic subjects;
- Create learning materials geared to each student's ability and interest;
- Instruct students using special educational strategies and techniques to improve sensory-mnotor and perceptual-motor development, perception, memory, language, cognition, and social and emotional development;
- Work with students to increase motivation, provide consistent reinforcement to learning, continuous assessment of level of fuctioning, and continuous feedback to student for all learning activites;
- Understand and be able to work with students of varying disabilities - SLD, Autism, EBD, etc.
- May work as a consultant, teach in self-contained classrooms, or teach in resource rooms;
- Lead and coordinate special education evaluations which may include conducting assessments (ex. BASC-3, WIAT-4, etc.)
Requirements:
- Must possess or be eligible to acquire a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license for Elementary Special Education.
