Position Details
The School District of Fort Atkinson is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Intellectual Disabilities/Cross Categorical Teacher at the Fort Atkinson High School- 18-21 Year Old Transitional Program.
This position teaches students who meet state eligibility criteria for Intellectual Disabilities and Cross Categorical special education needs. This position works with students with severe autism, students that are medically fragile and students who have diverse learning needs. This position provides services for students with differing IEP goals and works closely with classroom teachers and other District specialists. This position includes working between the classroom environment and within community sites fostering students in obtaining academic, social-emotional, adaptive behavioral, recreational, daily living and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Works with individuals with a range of ability levels understanding the unique development of needs of adolescents and implementing differentiated instruction.
- Incorporates classroom management that creates a positive learning environment.
- Demonstrates inclusionary practices.
- Teaches authentic skills to students within a functional daily living skills curriculum.
- Collaborates to teach and incorporate skills across various environments.
- Develops College and Career Ready Individual Education Plans that accurately reflect student current levels of performance, effects of disability and SMART goals that will demonstrate rigorous progress in academic, social-emotional, adaptive skills, behavior, daily living and communication.
- Utilizes transitional readiness skills and activities through specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals.
- Adjusts lessons and plans as needed to incorporate necessary school based and community based skills to meet individual needs.
- Works across varying environments including classroom, school and community sites.
- Demonstrated interest and ability in promoting academic excellence in an educational environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and establish an efficient, flexible schedule to achieve operational goals.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and in writing.
- Strong facilitation skills to coordinate and communicate with community businesses for employment / volunteer work opportunities.
- Ability to build strong relationships, collaborate, and cultivate a strong school culture.
- Ability to operate with a growth mindset and seek opportunities for feedback.
- Ability to work with students and families with diverse backgrounds and needs.
- Knowledge and skills in creating a learning environment that strives for college, career, and life-readiness, life-long learning, and improved student achievement.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner with a diverse population of students, parents, colleagues, and the larger community.
- Ability to establish a rapport with youth, parents and other staff, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
- Knowledge of and skill in the application of all statutes, rules, regulations, case law, and school board policies affecting student records, attendance, and discipline.
- Knowledge of and skill in use of technology for appropriate managing of student records and attendance.
- Exemplary knowledge of conflict resolution, NVCI, and other techniques.
- Experience with data-driven decision-making.
- Working knowledge of trauma informed schools.
- Working knowledge of equitable multi-level systems of support.
- Working knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and strategies.
- Working knowledge of current best practices around mental health and positive behavioral interventions.
Minimum Certification: Valid WI Teaching Licensure: Intellectual Disabilities (1810), Cross Categorical (1801)
