Waterford Union High School is seeking to fill a new community grant writer and marketing specialist position. This position will identify new grant opportunities that match the school and community’s mission, vision, and strategic plan in conjunction with the Village of Waterford, the Town of Waterford, the Chamber of Commerce (Explore Waterford), and other civic and municipal entities. The position will also provide marketing support to area school districts.
Economic development and a comprehensive plan for grant procurements that benefit the community will be given priority. The grant writer will research and apply for grant opportunities that enhance the quality of life and programming for current and prospective residents of the Waterford Area. Grant Writer/Fundraiser Job Responsibilities (80%)
- Prepares proposals by determining concepts, gathering and formatting information, writing drafts, and obtaining approvals.
- Determine proposal concepts by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs and by attending strategy meetings.
- Meets proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal.
- Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines for internal data and grant submissions.
- Works with leaders in each partner agency to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant processes for the entire grant life cycle, from proposal to evaluation.
- Coordinates requirements with contributors and contributes proposal status information to review meetings.
- Gathers proposal information by identifying sources of information, coordinating submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals.
- Extensive research may be required for each proposal. Makes recommendations for “best fit” opportunities.
- Develops proposals by assembling information, including project summary and narrative, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.
- Writes, revises, and edits drafts, including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
- Ensures quality results by using templates, following proposal-writing standards, including readability, consistency, and tone, and maintaining proposal support databases.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and maintaining personal networks.
- Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Involvement with civic organizations, economic development organizations, the Chamber of Commerce, and other agencies as needed to acquire community/area knowledge and understanding is required.
Marketing Job Responsibilities (20%)
- Work with and support the Director of Marketing and Communications
- Assist with website, social media, communications, and press releases as needed
- Preferred experience with video and photography

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, media, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of one year of experience in grant writing, prospect research, and general fundraising or two years of comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting is preferred.
- Grant Professionals Association (GPA) certification preferred.
