Position Details
Supervision:
The CNA/Special Education Paraprofessional works under the direct supervision of the assigned special education teacher and collaborates closely with other team members to ensure students’ academic and personal success.
Key Responsibilities:

Academic Support:
-
Provide instructional assistance and support to students, reinforcing lessons and implementing accommodations or modifications as outlined in IEPs.

Assist students in small group or one-on-one settings with classwork, activities, and daily routines.

Support communication goals by using assistive technology, visuals, or prompting strategies as needed.

Personal Care & Health Management:
-
Monitor and document student health symptoms, reporting changes promptly to the supervising teacher or nurse.

Record vital signs, administer doctor-approved medication, and provide emergency care when necessary.

Assist with feeding, including meal preparation, monitoring dietary restrictions, and helping with feeding tubes or adaptive equipment if required.

Provide toileting assistance, including diaper changes, catheterization (if trained), and encouraging independence in personal hygiene routines.

Mobility & Physical Support:
-
Provide physical assistance to students with mobility needs, including lifting, positioning, and transferring between equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers)

Support students during transitions between classrooms and other school settings to ensure safety and accessibility.

Assist with exercise routines or physical therapy activities under the guidance of the special education teacher or related service providers.

Behavioral & Social-Emotional Support:

Implement behavioral interventions and de-escalation techniques as outlined in the IEP or Behavior Plan.

Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment by supporting social skills development and encouraging appropriate peer interactions.

Monitor and document student behavior, providing feedback to the teacher for progress monitoring and reporting.

Administrative Duties:
-
Complete required documentation, including health logs, behavior tracking, and billing paperwork, as directed by the teacher.

Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, and professional development opportunities as needed.
Qualifications:
-
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred
-
Experience working with individuals with disabilities, preferably in an educational setting

Ability to lift and assist students with mobility
-
Strong communication and teamwork skills
-
Familiarity with IEPs and special education processes is preferred
