Summary: The Maintenance Technician supports the maintenance operations services throughout the district. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of school district facilities, ensuring that all buildings and structures are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. The work involves the installation, alteration, and repair of various items, equipment, and structures. The position requires a thorough knowledge of carpentry techniques and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Should have experience with all types of woodworking equipment.

● Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications

● Strong understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and carpentry techniques

● Ability to work outside, in extreme conditions as needed

● Experience with various snow removal equipment

● Ability to effectively use a variety of technologies, including but not limited to email systems, word processing software, internet, and the ability to adapt to changes in technology

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

● Required to work nights, weekends, and odd hours when repair or emergency situations occur.

● Performs various maintenance activities through the district work order system.

● Assists with building automation systems throughout the district to help ensure energy savings.

● Help manage the maintenance supplies and equipment for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner

● Follows employee handbook for the maintenance personnel.

● Actively seeks to improve Buildings and Grounds within the district

● Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Maintenance Operations and Director of Facilities.

● Assists with the district snow removal needs.

● Receive and respond to any emergency calls as needed.

● Coordinates with outside contractors as needed.

● Helps manage district-wide mechanical systems.

● Works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; and operating within a defined budget

● Ensure all work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and district policies

● Maintain a safe work environment by following all safety protocols and guidelines

● Fit and install window frames, door frames, doors, wood and metal studs, and drywall partitions

● Construct and repair shelves, cabinets, closets, counters, stools, benches, stands and bookcases

● Install hardware such as hinges, catches, locks, drawer pulls, kick plates, checks, and panic bars

● Install and repair window coverings including drapes, shades, blinds, curtain rods, and guards

● Install glass in windows, doors, cabinets, walls, and partitions

● Repair or replace ceiling tile, floor tile, ceramic tile

● Knowledge of and/or ability to learn keying system

● Adjust, repair, and replace door locks, padlocks, combination locks, and various other fastening devices such as panic hardware, door checks, latches, catches, fasteners, door closers, and locking devices

● Perform preventive maintenance on locks and hardware including cleaning, lubricating and tightening parts

● Perform snowplowing and snow removal

 

Desired Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Education, Certificates, Licenses and Training):

● Must maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and insurability

● Preferred five-ten years of building maintenance experience.

● Experience as a locksmith or working with keys, locks, and associated hardware

● Experience in a school district setting is highly desirable. 

● Preferred knowledge of playground safety and equipment

● Graduation from trade school, high school, associate degree in a related field preferred, and such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education finds appropriate and acceptable.
