The School District of Howards Grove currently has an opening for a Food Service Manager. The primary function of the Food Service Manager is to coordinate the food service program for the district. The Food Service Manager is responsible for directing and supervising 7 food service employees in 3 buildings, planning menus throughout the district calendar, and working within a budget. This is a full time position working 210 days, with some summer hours required (summer hours are flexible).

Qualifications and Job Functions:
 
• Plan menus to encourage student consumption of food. Meet student nutrient needs, and develops menus designed to meet student nutrient needs within DPI and USDA guidelines.
 
• Complete kitchen inspections and DPI required site reviews annually to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and district regulations.
 
• Review, maintain, and prepare necessary records and reports such as inventories, nutrition sheets, food counts, food consumption logs, and production records.
 
• Oversee and operate a multi-site food service operation within financial guidelines to achieve a cost-effective, successful program, including proposing staffing patterns and identifying budgetary needs.
 
• Order appropriate food and supplies from approved vendors.
 
• Must be able to operate and maintain, as an effective confidential employee of the kitchen team, a good working relationship with all students, district staff, administration, community members and parents. Communicate and respond to district staff and student needs in a timely and friendly manner.
 
• Must hold the ServSafe Manager Certification or equivalent -OR- obtain within 6 months of hire. 
 
• Knowledge of child nutrition and food service management or a related field is preferred.
 
• Must adhere to all HAACP practices in all activities at all times. Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 40 pounds, and stand for the majority of the shift. Must also be able to frequently bend, stretch, reach across serving counter, push and pull food carts. Help with food preparations, kitchen preparations, clean, sanitize and/or wash equipment and surfaces. Must wear hair restraints and safe shoes, no jewelry allowed. 
 
• Comfortable working in a faced-paced environment, assisting at other school kitchens if needed.
 
• Computer ability to effectively and safely operate, with instruction and proper training, the district Skyward Software food service point of sale computer system and employee access.
 
• Support the district philosophy and value of serving nutritious daily meals to our students and staff.
 
High School graduate or equivalent, clean driving record, and acceptable background check required.
