The Transition Improvement Grant (TIG) provides support for continuous improvement and technical assistance in order to change adult practices and district policy that will positively impact the graduation rates and post school outcomes for all students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with an increased focus on closing gaps in access and achievement for students of color.
Position Responsibilities
● As a partner of the DPI Statewide System for Continuous Improvement, provide technical assistance and serve as a content area expert to federally identified school districts.
● Provide monthly Postsecondary Transition Plan (PTP) monitoring and PTP reporting of non-compliant postsecondary goals and transition services.
● Provide ongoing technical assistance to all school districts identified with PTP records containing “other” non-compliant goals or transition services.
● Provide targeted intensive technical assistance to districts identified as being non-compliant in the annual DPI PTP compliance review.
● Explore, select and install key professional learning content on effective transition practices in order to improve access and achievement of students with IEPs, particularly students of color.
● Develop key local, state and national expert partnerships in order to support learning opportunities on effective transition practices.
● Provide professional development and technical assistance through face to face, online training, and virtual training formats as well as email communications.
● Promote the application of culturally and linguistically responsive practices in transition.
● Maintain activity records for mid-year and end-of-year grant reporting.
● Attend quarterly staff meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
● A bachelor’s degree or more advanced degree in Education, Social Science or other related field
● Knowledge of special education and postsecondary transition for students with disabilities
● Experience in utilizing data to make informed decisions supporting students with disabilities
● Strong time management and organizational skills
● Ability to organize the logistics of multi-faceted projects
● Communication skills concerning interactions with colleagues, educators, families, youth and adult agencies to improve postschool outcomes of students with disabilities
● Ability to work independently, maintain communication with transition partners and complete follow-up in an accurate and timely manner
● Computer skills: Proficiency in web-based technology, including email and Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, livebinder and PowerPoint. Word processing skills, including creating letters and documents, etc.
● Ability to travel in Wisconsin on a regular basis including overnight stays
