We are seeking applicants for the following position(s):

AVID Tutor
Badger Ridge Middle School
Savanna Oaks Middle School
Verona Area High School

PURPOSE OF POSITION
AVID tutorials offer a collaborative environment in which students use the inquiry process and Socratic dialogue to address points of confusion from their content classes. AVID tutors support our AVID Elective students who are underrepresented in higher education, through the facilitation of the AVID 10-step tutorial process to ensure students are thinking critically and problem-solving using inquiry. Additionally, AVID tutors serve as role models for AVID Elective students.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
Attend and participate in a 3 hour AVID Tutorial Training at VAHS
Support AVID scholars through facilitating small group tutorial sessions
Model inquiry, academic language, higher level thinking, and problem solving skills
Provide feedback on student work and group collaboration
Collaborate with a team of tutors and elective teachers to support scholars’ agency
Adhere to district/site policies and procedures
Engage in ongoing professional development

WORK LOCATION
AVID Tutors will work at Verona Area High School or at one of our two middle schools all of which implement the AVID elective class.
Placement is based on tutor availability, academic strengths, work experience, and individual school need.

HOURS OF WORK
AVID Tutors are requested to work minimally two mornings per week in the AVID Elective class. Schedules will be finalized prior to being hired into the AVID role.

RATE OF PAY
$16.25 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates are either currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college or a college graduate
Previous experience working with diverse middle school or high school-aged youth
Experience with small group facilitation
Excellent communication skills
AVID Alumni are strongly encouraged to apply

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous AVID tutoring experience
Previous experience working in a school setting or with school staff
Experience working with students in a pre-college or college readiness program
Ability to commit for the entirety of the 2024-25 school year (or at minimum one semester)
