As a school-based coach you will work closely with the regional YA coordinator in the implementation and operation of the program. This position is pivotal in creating a solid communication network between the needs of each school and the success of the Youth Apprenticeship program.   

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with student recruitment by distributing YA promotional materials to students and parents 
  • Promote informational meetings with school staff, students, parents, and community organizations as it pertains to Youth Apprenticeship
  • Serve as the program liaison with the regional YA coordinator and attending meetings as requested
  • Oversee the academic grades, graduation, and YA credits earned of the YA student
  • Assist the regional coordinator in identifying employers and mentors
  • Assess interested students and determining the student’s ability to successfully complete the youth apprenticeship program
  • Integrate the youth apprenticeship program into the student’s overall educational program
  • Determine which related instruction options are available and appropriate for each youth apprentice
  • Issue credit toward graduation for the youth apprenticeship program experience
  • Ensure all essential paperwork is complete and forwarded to Regional YA Coordinator.
  • Arrange student schedules to allow for YA program participation
  • Bi-weekly summary of students needing action (academics, behavioral, attendance, etc.)

Qualifications and Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree. Educational background is preferred; specifically in course selection and understanding the overall educational component of a student
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Solid organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize
  • Ability to build solid positive working relationships with a diverse group of people
  • Effective problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of people
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Word and Excel
