Salem Grade School is currently seeking a full-time Instrumental Music Teacher for grades 5-8.  This teacher will also be responsible for teaching 2 sections of general music in the intermediate grades (.7 Instrumental Music/.3 General Music).  The teacher's primary responsibility will be to oversee Salem's Band program and foster students' passion for music and performance.  In addition to daily teacher lunch and prep time, extra time is reserved in the weekly schedule for sectionals/lessons.  The teacher should possess excellent communication skills, have a strong commitment to academic and musical excellence, provide support for the individual needs of his or her students, and foster positive interactions with students and fellow employees.
 
Essential Job Functions
• Work within a collaborative team.
• Use formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and monitor student progress within a guaranteed and viable curriculum based on standards.
Organize and conduct concerts and participate in local band events (collaborate with the high school band program, parades, etc.)
• Participate in required trainings for curricular resources, school safety procedures, etc. as determined by administration.
• Plan for professional growth through staff development, course work, and/or other opportunities.
• Serve as a positive role model for students in how to conduct themselves as responsible citizens.
• Teach and reinforce Salem's values of respect, responsibility, and safety.
• Foster engagement of Salem's families.
• Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary within the scope of the employment position

Required Qualifications – Required qualifications to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested.
• Wisconsin Teaching Certification in the appropriate grade level and content area.
• Fundamental understanding of instruction, assessment, supervision, and evaluation.
• Strong leadership ability.
• Ability to work effectively with groups and individuals.
• Effective speaking and writing skills.
• Creative and imaginative approach to problems.
• Use of culturally responsive practices.
