The School District of Beloit is seeking two School Security Officers (SSO) for Beloit Memorial High School.  This is a permanent/full time position based on a 181 working day calendar with a start date of August 28th, 2024. Starting pay is $26.59 per hour. Minority and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Job purpose - 
 
The Beloit Memorial School Security Officer will provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of all students, staff, and visitors while on school grounds. This position assists the administrative staff with carrying out policies and procedures that ensure safe and orderly schools at the building level. The SSO also works closely with  the assigned School Resources Officers (SRO).
 
Duties and responsibilities
  1. Maintains security and safety at their designated school
  2. Collaborates with the administrative team and SRO in handling disruptive and crisis/emergency situations
  3. Patrols and monitors assigned areas of the school building, grounds and parking lot(s) to deter, detect, report and stop violations of the law and/or district rules and/or policies.
  4. Detects, investigates and reports unauthorized or suspicious persons, vehicles and activities.
  5. Supervises and maintains security during passing time in the hallways of the school
  6. Monitors the surveillance cameras
  7. Maintains security and safety during breakfast and lunch and with morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of students
  8. Assists with fire drills and other emergency building evacuations/drills.
  9. Maintains the security of entrances and exits throughout the day.
  10. Trains and mentors other new SSO members as assigned.
  11. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  12. Serves as a trained member of the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT).
  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or building administration.
 
Qualifications

- Required Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or GED certification.
  2. 1-3 years of experience in security or a related field
 
- Preferred Qualifications
  1. Previous experience working with diverse populations
  2. Previous experience working in a school environment
  3. NVCI trained

Shift Assignment
The approved shift structure is outlined below. Shift assignments are based on seniority through a shift bid process. 

7:15AM - 3:45PM
7:30AM - 4:00PM
7:30AM - 4:00PM
8:00AM - 4:30PM
8:30AM - 5:00PM
9:00AM - 5:30PM

Uniforms
Security Officers are responsible for purchasing the required uniform.
 
Physical Requirements
Must have the ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; articulate information in an emergency situation; and have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement.
