Full Time

Under the direction of the WAWM Leadership Team, this position is responsible for the continued development, coordination and supervision of WAWM Recreation and Community Services Department Adaptive Programs. This individual will work to ensure that the Adaptive Programs are of the highest quality, and constantly evolving to meet the needs of our community.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting, training, and supervising part-time staff and volunteers of adaptive programs.
  • Oversees the day to day operations of the RAD (Recreational Adult Day Program) program. 
  • Manages and provides oversight for all inclusive services within the department. 
  • Provide training and oversight for other Program Managers, part-time staff, and volunteers in adaptive and inclusive recreation best practices. 
  • Plans daily and monthly schedules for RAD, and distributes to participants and families.
  • Works, along with families, to create success plans for each participant to ensure they are getting the services they need. 
  • Communicate regularly with families/caregivers of RAD Participants to give program updates.
  • Performs annual and routine check of all equipment used in Adaptive programs. 
  • Creates weekly supply and grocery lists for RAD Lunches that are prepared twice a week. 
  • Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and first aid supplies for all Adaptive programs. 
  • Research new and innovative adaptive programs for people of all ages to provide to the community. 
  • Conducts routine review of programs to continue to improve and ensure the delivery of high quality programs.
  • Ensure that adaptive programs and inclusionary practices align with the department's mission and values.  
  • Supervise adaptive programs and staff in the evenings and weekends as needed. 
  • Assist with the creation and oversight of annual program budget. 
  • Assist with the promotion and marketing of the program, both to internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required to:

  • Work directly with adults and children with disabilities in various settings.
  • Multi-task and prioritize workload.
  • Supervise part time employees and volunteers. 
  • Establish effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, parents and community members.

  • Bachelor's Degree + 1 year of recreation based experience, preferably in an Adaptive setting.
  • Adaptive programming or special education experience is a plus.
  • Experience supervising programs for people with disabilities of all ages.
  • Enthusiastic, positive, self-motivated, and dependable. 
  • Able to plan daily schedules/events, resourceful in solving problems, and have the ability to maximize resources.
  • Skilled at interacting with participants and families of all socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Able to work and thrive in stressful situations and is skilled at de-escalating problematic behaviors.
