JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This is an awesome opportunity to work in a highly supportive environment and make a real difference in the life of a child. Teach a small class size of students using a team approach with a co-Special Education Teacher to deploy personalized, relationship-focused strategies designed to foster student growth. You would be further supported by our Assistant Director and student services staff in true collaborative effort.
Following the guidelines established by the IEP, which is designed through ongoing collaboration with resident districts and families, teach students who have an emotional behavioral disability diagnosis by adapting teaching techniques and methods of instruction to meet individual student needs through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Our programs have been recognized for their work in deploying Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports and for the positive impact that those supports have had on students. Instruct students in academic subjects, social interaction and daily living skills. Daily management and modification of student behavior required, as well as curriculum development, modification, and expansion.
CESA 1 offers opportunities for professional development to help you grow as an educator. Additionally, you would participate in student IEP meetings, but would not need to write the IEP or be the case manager.
Job responsibilities also include:
- Provide instruction in all academic subjects to students in grades 9-12.
- Collaborate with school district staff and Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams to design and implement a program that allows the student to make adequate progress toward learning, IEP, and transition goals, as well as graduation requirements, if applicable.
- Prepare lessons, units, or projects and/or modify existing curriculum to support student learning and completion of learning objectives.
- Assess levels of student achievement, analyze formative and summative assessment data, and prescribe actions for improvement.
- Establish a strong relationship with students to foster learning and increase student motivation and achievement.
- Develop and support individually designed transition plans for students as they move between identified placements.
- Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and districts in regard to student progress.
- Maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe, healthy, and orderly learning environment. Enforce rules and policies consistently.
- Track and evaluate student academic progress.
- Participate in professional development to remain current regarding educational strategies.
- Follow professional practices consistent with Agency and system policies in working with students, student records, parents, and colleagues.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with laws and policies concerning student learning and records.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree
- Wisconsin DPI Cross Categorical Special Education License required\
- Certification in crisis prevention and intervention (CPI) or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred
- Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Training in de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution strategies
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and strategies for working with students who have experienced trauma
- Experience implementing behavior management strategies and individualized interventions
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with students who may have difficulty trusting adults
- Patience, empathy, and a compassionate attitude towards students who exhibit challenging behaviors, recognizing that challenging behaviors often stem from underlying issues
- Strong organizational skills to track student progress, data, and intervention strategies
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and reflection, continuously seeking to improve skills and effectiveness in supporting students
- Is agile and leverages flexibility, resilience, and adaptability to change. Easily adapts teaching strategies and approaches to meet the unique needs to each student.
- Collaborates with others to achieve a common goal in a way that promotes representation and participation by all.
- Communicates with clarity and respect in a variety of formats, including verbal, non-verbal, written, and multimedia.
- Uses critical thinking to analyze multiple perspectives, contexts, and data to creatively question, make connections, and evaluate options.
- Is empathetic and engages with others to understand and recognize their perspectives, experiences, and emotions.
