Overview:
The School District of Altoona is currently accepting applications for a full-time special education paraprofessional position in grades 6-8 at Altoona Middle School with a start date of August 26, 2024. The Special Education Paraprofessional assists teachers in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions; also assists students who receive special education services in general education classrooms with the goal of helping students to reach their educational goals. Due to the varied and individual needs of each student, Special Education Paraprofessionals may provide a variety of support and assistance, and should be flexible in adjusting to student needs.
Altoona Middle School is a grades 6-8 school with approximately 425 students. We are a part of a grades 4-12 campus allowing us to share staff and resources making it very common to see students in any of these grades every day. Our students enjoy an 80-minute math, ELA, and Science or Social Studies class, along with two 45-minute class periods for a variety of Specials classes, as well as a homeroom/intervention period every day. Our location between two larger school districts provides our staff, students, and families with more resources than most schools our size. As a building and district, we implement all aspects of a Professional Learning Community in our pursuit of student success. While we still consider ourselves a smaller school, we provide “larger school opportunities” and are continuing to see a growing enrollment where both families and educators choose to make Altoona Middle School their school of choice. We have amazing students, supportive parents and community, and an absolutely fantastic staff who work as a family doing whatever it takes for all students. We are excited you are interested to be a part of our AMS family to help make us even better.
