Position Details
Assist ID (intellectual disabilities) teacher in the classroom with activities, as well as classroom and material preparation in one-on-one and small group situations. May be asked to assist other special education students. This assistant also works with other special education students and is involved with the swim program. Riding the bus with students is required. Other duties as assigned by the administrator.
1. Minimum of two years of college (48 credits), an associate degree, or successful completion of the SASD assessment.
2. Must hold a Wisconsin DPI Special Education Program Aide license or be certifiable.
3. Experience with special needs students.
4. Must be able to assist students with physical needs (lifting, hygiene, etc.).
5. Must be able to handle emergency procedures and disruptive student behaviors in a calm, positive manner.
6. Must be an independent worker who works without prompts from the teacher.
7. Assist teacher in providing instruction to individual and groups of students, and supervising classroom activities for example: must be able to model correct language techniques, grammar, and articulation as well as correct reading miscues.
8. Recess and bus duty (riding the bus with students) is required.
9. CPI trained or willing to be trained.
10. Swimming with the students for therapy purposes will be required weekly.
