DeForest Area School District is located just ten miles northeast of Madison in Dane County. We offer outstanding facilities and a competitive salary and benefits package. This is an 8 hour per day, school year position.
A School Office Assistant is responsible for school secretarial and office management support and communications. Employees must have a thorough working knowledge of school policies and procedures, and general knowledge of events and activities.
Duties include:
Welcome visitors by greeting them, answering or referring inquiries.
Answers, screens and directs telephone calls. Takes and relays messages.
Handles daily substitute management.
Provides information to visitors and callers or directs questions to appropriate people.
Provides clerical support for Building Secretary and Principals. Types correspondence, memos, reports, forms and other materials.
Sorts and distributes mail, bulletins, reports and other printed materials.
Maintains files for school/department programs and student information.
Ensures safety protocols are followed with regards to visitor sign in, visitor and sub ID badges and authorized adults picking up students.
Maintains confidentiality of student and staff information.
Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualified applicants will possess a High School diploma or equivalent, vocational/technical training in secretarial science, two years prior secretarial experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. General knowledge of computer usage and ability to use MS Word, MSExcel, Google Applications and Skyward Student. Candidate must have the ability to interact in a constructive manner with students, staff, and the public.
