Expectations and Desired Qualifications of the Position:

  • Manage a library and technology program that addresses relevant 21st-century skills, including: learning and innovation; information, media, and technology literacies; as well as life and career development.

  • Deliver instruction to students in (4K-grade 4) related to digital, information, and literacy skills, including digital media and inquiry processes.

  • Empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, effective communicators, and ethical users of information.

  • Maintain a contemporary school library center environment that is inviting, equitable, safe, readily accessible, and conducive to learning.

  • Through collaboration with teams/PLCs, develop and maintain a collection of high-quality digital and print resources that reflect the curriculum, diversity, and teaching and learning preferences of the school community.

  • Regularly update a District Library Plan in collaboration with other district Library Media Specialist(s) that reflects the goals and priorities of the district.

  • Network with other libraries and community organizations/agencies to provide continuous and expanded access to resources for students and staff.

  • Facilitate learning and professional development opportunities for staff.

  • Perform routine troubleshooting of hardware, software, and services.

  • Direct and supervise Library Assistant staff members.

  • Strong literacy background; understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of high-quality, age-appropriate literacy materials for students. 

  • Knowledge of makerspaces, STEAM education principles, and experience using technology such as 3D printers, robotics, green screens, etc.

  • Proven budget management skills and knowledge of Common School Fund (library aid) purchasing guidelines.

  • Familiarity with national and state standards for information and technology literacy, including the Wisconsin ITL, ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) and American Association of School Librarians (AASL) standards, as well as the Future Ready Librarians framework.
