The School District of Waukesha is hiring a School Counselor for the 2024-2025 school year. This position will spend 80% of their time at Waukesha South High School, and 20% of their time at an Elementary School (TBD).
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Delivers assigned guidance services within the scope of district philosophy and goals
2. Provides one-to-one as well as group counseling
3. Keeps records by utilizing appropriate forms
4. Plans and participates in classroom presentation activities related to the areas of decision making, self-understanding and career awareness
5. Plans, organizes and implements activities for prospective high school students and their parents in order to prepare them for their transition to the high school
6. Designs and initiates activities aimed at assisting students to adjust to changes in school
7. Facilitates the delivery of services to all assigned students
8. Initiates contact and/or accepts appointments with students who have academic, personal and educational problems or concerns
9. Makes appropriate referrals to other district personnel, specialists and/or community agencies
10. Helps students towards realistic self-appraisal through interpretation of various assessment instruments
11. Distributes relevant educational and career information to students and parents as they make decisions regarding courses and program selection
12. Helps students plan for post-high school job, education and/or career and assists the placement of students into colleges, technical schools, apprenticeship programs, jobs, the military, etc.
13. Provides information and consultation services to staff regarding students and interprets student needs to staff
14. Works with parents in order to help them deal with areas of concern
15. Acts as liaison on behalf of students with teachers and administrative personnel
16. Serves as consultant in curriculum change and development
17. Participates in school and/or community committees related to guidance services
18. Assist with student scheduling
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Education or Experience:
1. Master’s Degree in School Counseling or degree appropriate to position.
2. Certification from the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
