Key responsibilities include: 

  • Supporting the work of the general education teachers in the classrooms and providing additional support outside of the classroom for students in our Special Education program.

  • Ability to effectively work with students with a variety of disabilities including Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, and Social/Emotional Disabilities

  • Working collaboratively and communicating with the Sheboygan Area School District regarding Special Education programming

  • Facilitating and collaborating with IEP teams for students with special needs, including related service providers, regular education teachers, administration, and parents. 

  • Organizing, holding, and facilitating IEP meetings, and completing paperwork within a timely manner to honor timelines and dates.

  • Using a multitude of instructional strategies, especially Direct Instruction, that are academically rigorous and highly engaging

  • Work collaboratively to differentiate curriculum, assessment, and instruction

  • Taking responsibility for student progress; constantly working to respond to students’ needs

  • Maintaining consistent communications with families regarding student progress 

  • Utilizing PBIS strategies in the classroom to provide motivation and success for students.

  • Displaying extraordinary time management to maximize student learning

  • Building relationships with students and families that communicate the importance of academic and social success at school

  • Taking on responsibilities outside of their content area instruction such as Core Virtue presentations, lunch and recess duty, and after-school activities.

  • Supervise and work with special education aides.


Teacher Competencies and Qualifications
The successful candidate will also have:

  • A strong academic record with a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university 

  • An 1801 Cross Categorical License (Consideration will be given to those currently working towards certification.)

  • CPI Certified or a willingness to be trained (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training)

  • Strong classroom management abilities

  • A strong belief that all students can learn and succeed in the classroom

  • A do-whatever-it takes attitude 

  • An exceptional ability to respond well to feedback and implement it immediately

Teacher Content Area Information
LCA will be looking at the person who fills this position to take the lead in overseeing our Special Education program through our Pre-kindergarten - 8th grade.  

General Information
This position begins in the 2024-25 school year and the successful candidate will start in August.
