Merrill Area Public Schools (MAPS) is looking for a qualified Family Service worker.
 
The Family Service Worker (FSW) recruits and enrolls children in the Head Start program, ensures access to program services and community resources, and develops strength-based action plans with families. They inform residents about program services and maintain accurate family data to facilitate program services and assess their impact. The FSW provides guidance to all Head Start families and collaborates with them to build relationships with parents and ensure positive outcomes. The FSW will work with teachers and staff to support children's adjustment to Head Start and achieve positive outcomes.
This position supports the Principal's office and works with confidential/sensitive information that requires all conversations and materials to be kept 100% confidential.
 
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Recruit and enroll children and families to receive Head Start services.
2. Develop and maintain open channels of communication between Head Start, the family, and the community.
3. Inform families of Head Start services and promote parent engagement in all facets of the program.
4. Enter family data in the program database accurately and in a timely manner to facilitate program services. Report needs of children and parents to appropriate content area specialists. Protect the confidentiality of all information.
5. Collaborate with community agencies to ensure that families have accessibility to services that support their well-being.
6. Provide training and education to families in using available resources and obtaining community services. Advocate for needed services in the community.
7. Assist staff with developmental screenings, and review health records to ensure that children receive recommended treatment and follow-up. Make home visits to families as needed or required.
8. Assist parents with transitional activities into Head Start and from Head Start to other educational settings.
10. Participate in training, staff meetings, monthly center parent meetings and other gatherings as required.
11. Collaborate with Teachers, Caregivers, and other center based staff to provide seamless services to assist children and families.
12. Maintain/update documentation for On-Site Monitoring by the Office of Head Start; learn and adhere to Standards and support the administrator in the supervision of the standards.
13. Assist in the arrangement of family events, Policy Council meetings, and other appointments for administrator and building. Hours for events extend beyond the regular school day and hours are flexible to accommodate these events.
14. Support in organizing family events, Policy Council meetings, and other appointments for administrators and building staff.
15. Develop and distribute school communications through a variety of means (e-mail, fax, phone, newsletters, correspondence, Social Media,etc).
16. Assist in the research of data, accurately gathering and presenting the data to the administrator/supervisor.
17. Assist in supervision of students when necessary.
18. Support school administration when needed.
 
The ideal candidate will have two years experience in working with children and families in a field of social service. Must be sensitive to and willing to work in addressing the needs of children and families of various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.
 
Must be in good physical and mental health. Must have a valid driver's license and transportation. Have knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, equipment and secretarial techniques. The ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
 
This is a full-time, 10 month position and is eligible for benefits including health, dental, life, LTD, and other voluntary insurance benefits. Also included is Paid Time Off (10 days), Wisconsin Retirement System, and eligibility to receive matching contributions to a 403(b). Merrill is located just 20 minutes north of Wausau and is a great family-oriented community. Merrill is currently serving students in a face-to-face format and has been providing multiple learning options (in-person, virtual, and hybrid) to students at a variety of ages.
